Approved reusable packaging for the regular transport of hazardous materials (shuttle crate).

PRODUCT TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Manufactured according to customer specifications (color, closure system, stainless steel or other accessories, carrying handle, crane bracket, wheels, aluminum frame, etc.)
  • Developed using 3D software
  • Standardized for the packaging of all types of dangerous goods

Why Is Standard Packaging Never an Option for High-Value Goods?

For reasons of cost or simplicity, it can be tempting to consider standard packaging for high-value equipment. This is a miscalculation that can be extremely costly. Standard packaging, whether cardboard boxes or generic crates, is designed for standard shapes and weights. Their limits are quickly reached when faced with the challenges posed by unique and critical goods:

Inadequate Shock Protection

Standard cushioning (peanuts, bubble wrap) cannot perfectly secure an object with a complex geometry. The slightest movement inside the crate turns into repeated impacts during transport, potentially damaging welds, connectors, or sensitive electronic components.

Vulnerability to Vibrations

Low-frequency vibrations during air or road transport are a major cause of failure for electronic equipment. Standard packaging offers no specific vibration absorption, leaving your asset exposed to this invisible yet destructive risk.

Total Lack of Regulatory Compliance

Standard packaging carries no certification for the transport of hazardous materials. Shipping a prototype battery or equipment containing chemicals in a non-certified crate is illegal and exposes the sender to severe penalties and full liability in case of an incident. The hidden cost of "cheap" is clear: the savings from using standard packaging are insignificant compared to the potential loss of the transported item.

Understanding Dual Protection: Physical Strength and Regulatory Compliance

A certified flight case is an engineered solution that provides answers on two fronts: absolute physical protection and complete legal assurance.

The Engineering of Physical Protection: A Custom-Made Cocoon

The robustness of a flight case does not come by chance, but from a design built for the most extreme conditions:

  • The Structure: Made from multi-ply wood panels (often birch) and reinforced with aluminum angle profiles, the case is designed to withstand impacts and heavy stacking loads.
  • The Components: Metal ball corners, recessed "butterfly" latches, and sturdy handles are standards borrowed from the world of live performance and events, where equipment is transported intensively.
  • High-Density Foam Cushioning: This is the heart of the protection. Inside the flight case, technical foam (polyethylene, polyurethane) is CNC-machined from the 3D plans of your product. It creates a "cocoon" that perfectly hugs every contour of your equipment. This custom cushioning ensures two things: total immobilization and optimal shock and vibration absorption, protecting the most fragile points of your asset.

Guaranteeing Legal Compliance: UN Certification

Physical protection alone is not enough if your asset is classified as hazardous material. This is where UN certification comes in.

  • A Rigorous Certification Process: A certified flight case is not just a sturdy box. It is a complete packaging system (case + cushioning + product) that has undergone a series of official tests by an accredited laboratory (drop tests, stacking tests, etc.) to prove its ability to safely contain the hazardous material it carries.
  • Assurance for the Shipper: Once certified, the flight case receives its own UN marking. This certification places responsibility on the packaging manufacturer and protects the shipper. In the event of an inspection, you have irrefutable proof that you are using a solution compliant with regulations (IATA, ADR, IMDG).

The Custom Creation Process: From Need to Certified Solution

The creation of a certified flight case is a collaborative process between your team and our design office.

  1. Needs Analysis: It all begins with a thorough analysis of your product. We study its dimensions, weight, mass distribution, weak points, and of course, the nature and classification of the hazardous material it contains (e.g., a lithium battery UN 3480).
  2. Cushioning Design (CAD): Using your 3D files or precise measurements, our design office digitally designs the foam cushioning. Each cavity is designed for optimal support and ease of handling (finger grips, spaces for cables, etc.).
  3. Manufacturing and Certification: Once the design is validated, we manufacture the flight case and its cushioning. If necessary, a prototype of the complete solution is submitted to an accredited laboratory for certification tests to obtain its own UN homologation report. You then have a unique solution, perfectly tailored and 100% compliant.

FAQ: Your Questions About Certified Flight Cases

The 4GV cardboard is certified according to strict international standards. It is designed to contain dangerous goods with a level of strength and safety far superior to ordinary cardboard.

The actual weight is a factor, but for air freight, volumetric weight often takes precedence. A custom flight case, although heavier, is optimized for volume. Its reusability and the protection it provides against product loss largely offset any additional cost related to weight.

The process starts with an analysis of your product (via 3D files or a scan). Our design office then digitally creates (CAD) the foam insert for optimal protection. Finally, the foam is machined with millimetric precision to perfectly fit the shape of your equipment.

Yes, this is a major advantage. If a new version of your product has slight modifications, it is often possible to replace only the internal foam insert. This makes your investment in the flight case durable and adaptable to the evolution of your equipment.

A flight case is designed to last for many years and hundreds of transport cycles. Its robust design and the ability to replace wear parts (closures, corners, foam) make it an extremely durable solution.

Effective management requires logistics loop planning with your carriers. The integration of tracking solutions allows you to locate your fleet in real time. An inspection and maintenance procedure between each use ensures the longevity of the crates.

Yes, its wood and aluminum structure provides excellent protection against moisture and temperature variations. For more extreme requirements, reinforced sealing options (gaskets, pressure relief valves) can be integrated to achieve high protection ratings (IP).

Absolutely. This is a major trend in Industry 4.0. We can design dedicated spaces in the foam padding to integrate your GPS trackers or shock sensors, transforming your flight case into “smart,” traceable packaging.

A Strategic Investment for Your Most Valuable Assets

For the most critical goods, choosing packaging is not a logistical decision, but a strategic risk management decision. A custom-made, certified flight case is not a cost, it is the assurance that your most valuable innovation, your most vital component, will arrive at its destination in perfect condition and in full compliance with the law. It is peace of mind that allows you to focus on your core business: innovation.
